Voltage Optimisation

Voltage Optimisation

Voltage optimisation technology is used to regulate the incoming power supply at your premises. Determining the optimum supply voltage for appliances and electrical equipment helps reduce excess voltage and electricity consumption.

Why is this needed?

The UK mains supply has an AC voltage frequency of 50Hz and 230 Volts. A tolerance level allows up to an additional 10% or 6% less, meaning the allowed range is from 216.2V to 253V. The actual voltage supplied by National Grid fluctuates around an average of 242V.

Most appliances are rated at 220V. Therefore, appliances are being supplied with more electricity than necessary to operate. Resulting in both energy and financial waste and extra wear and tear on your assets.

Will it work?

Voltage optimisation is a proven technique that has been used for over 100 years to streamline the voltage supplied and reduce energy consumption in homes and businesses around the world.

What benefits could you achieve?

The most obvious benefit of voltage optimisation is the significant reduction in your electricity bills. On average, the installation of a volume optimiser achieves an energy reduction of 12%, which is an immediate benefit to your bottom line. In addition, you will see a reduction in your company’s carbon footprint and an improved lifespan of your electrical assets.

Is the installation complicated?

Voltage optimisers are relatively easy to install by a qualified electrician. Most installations require a device installed between the main electricity meter and the consumer unit with a few wires simply connected between the two. Each site has specific requirements and will need to be looked at separately by an energy professional.

Installation is likely to impact the power supply to your operation. However, it is possible to arrange for it out of hours to minimise disruption. This would allow the electrician to turn the power off for a more extended period without impacting your business.

How can we help?

By working closely with our chosen partner, Adalta Energy can carry out a site survey to establish the current voltage on site as well as what power is required. With the data collected, an assessment can be made as to the power rating for the voltage optimisation system and the potential savings that could be made through installation.
